Tomorrow (June 26th), is Tropical Cocktails Day! Started in 2013, by cocktail enthusiast Jace Shoemaker-Galloway, Tropical Cocktails Day is a great excuse to sit back and enjoy a refreshing beverage at the end of a long day of work. There are many varieties of tropical cocktails, so it can be a challenge to even know where to start. Here are a few recipe options, so you can spend less time planning, and more time enjoying!

HURRICANE COCKTAIL 

INGREDIENTS:

2 oz White rum

2 oz Dark rum

1 oz Lime juice

1 oz Orange juice

2 oz Passion fruit juice

1⁄2 oz Simple syrup

1⁄2 oz Grenadine

Garnish:

Orange wheel, maraschino cherry, or pineapple

INSTRUCTIONS:

Add all the ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice.

Shake, and strain into a large Hurricane glass filled with fresh ice.

Garnish with an orange half-wheel and a cherry.

 

PIÑA COLADA COCKTAIL 

INGREDIENTS:

1 1⁄2 oz Light or gold rum

2 oz sweet cream of coconut

2 oz Fresh pineapple juice

Garnish:

Maraschino cherry, Pineapple wedge

INSTRUCTIONS:

To make the Piña Colada add all the ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice.

Shake, and strain into a Hurricane glass filled with fresh ice.

(You may also blend all the ingredients with crushed ice instead.)

Garnish with a cherry and a pineapple wedge.

 

ALABAMA SLAMMER COCKTAIL

INGREDIENTS:

1 oz Southern Comfort

1 oz amaretto

1 oz sloe gin

2 oz orange juice

Garnish:

Orange slice, maraschino cherry

INSTRUCTIONS:

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes.

Pour in all the ingredients and shake well.

Fill a highball glass with ice and strain the mixture into it.

Garnish with a cherry and an orange slice.

 

MAI TAI COCKTAIL (2 Versions)

INGREDIENTS:

2 oz Dark rum, preferably Jamaican

1/2 oz Orange curacao

1 oz Fresh Lime Juice

1/2 oz Orgeat Syrup (Almond, sugar, and rosewater or orange flower water)

1/4 oz Simple Syrup

Garnish:

Fresh pineapple wedge, maraschino cherry, fresh mint sprig

INSTRUCTIONS:

Shake without ice.

Strain into an ice-filled old-fashioned glass.

Garnish with skewered pineapple, cherry, and mint.

OR

INGREDIENTS:

1/4 oz Grenadine

1 tsp Lemon juice

6 oz Orange juice

1 oz Pineapple juice

1/2 oz Grand marnier or triple sec

1 1/2 oz Rum

1 Splash Rum, dark

INSTRUCTIONS:

In a 16 ounce glass filled halfway with ice, pour rum, grand mariner, pineapple juice, lemon juice, and orange juice together and stir.

Pour grenadine over the top and let settle through the drink.

Top off with a splash of dark rum.

Garnish with cherries and pineapple.

 

BLUE HAWAIIAN COCKTAIL

INGREDIENTS:

1 oz Coconut Rum (or coconut cream and white rum)

1 oz Blue Curacao

2 oz Pineapple Juice

1 Cup Crushed Ice

Garnish:

Fresh Pineapple and Maraschino Cherries

INSTRUCTIONS:

Combine ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth.

Pour in a hurricane, or other tall glass.

(Or combine ingredients in a shaker with ice, and pour into glass over fresh ice)

Garnish with pineapple and maraschino cherries.

 

FROZEN PEACH CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL

INGREDIENTS:

4 oz Alizé Peach (peach liqueur)

2 cups frozen peach slices

3 tablespoons powdered sugar

1 cup ice

12 oz chilled champagne (or sparkling wine)

2 tablespoons grenadine

Garnish:

Maraschino cherries, peach slice.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Combine Alizé Peach, frozen peaches, powdered sugar and ice in a blender.

Blend until smooth, adding some of the champagne if extra liquid is needed.

Stir in remaining champagne.

Place 1/4 of the peach mixture in each glass. Add 1 tablespoon grenadine to each glass. Top with remaining peach mixture.

Garnish and serve.
