Want to have an Oscar bash without breaking the bank? Make it a fun evening and still get the glitz and glam of the red carpet with some of these ideas.

Decorate to make the evening feel special, but don’t stress out. Dig up those Christmas decorations from last month and pull out anything gold: ball ornaments, tinsel, garland, and ribbon.  Use a decorative bowl or vase to hold the ornament balls for a statement on a coffee or end table.

Make a run to the dollar store for some gold and black décor. Grab some streamers, balloons, and anything that sparkles that elegant golden hue, think star cut outs, candles, or bead necklaces (Mardi Gras is coming up so beads will be in stock).

At our house our gold garland is strung up with white twinkle lights, put this into a tall cylinder vase and be sure to set close to an outlet to set some mood lighting.

Where ever the television in your home is, this is where the bulk of the party will take place, be sure to have drinks and snacks nearby. A signature Oscar drink with the glamour of old Hollywood will set the tone for the party.  Bonus points for using gold glitter sugar to rim the cocktail glasses.

Martini or wine glasses are excellent for dessert parfaits. For added glitz, use plastic champagne flutes sprayed with glue then dipped in gold glitter (be sure to do this a day or two before the party to allow time to dry).

When it comes to snacks, request that each guest bring their favorite hors d’oeuvre.  A popcorn machine can keep the movie theme alive and allow for munching throughout the show.  Be sure to provide a healthy option such as a vegetable or a fruit tray.

The entertainment will be all about the awards, but have a little fun during the pre-show and have everyone vote on best, worst, and most uniquely dressed. And of course pick their favorites to win!
